General Information

Leading a Trip
Please don’t feel intimidated to lead a trip.  Leading a trip is simple.  All in country logistics are handled by Joel and his staff in Honduras.  Most of the time, flight reservations, money collection, and insurance is handled by your sponsoring church.  Your primary role as leader is organizing a few meetings prior to the trip and communicating with Joel to determine your trip dates. No prior experience is needed.  Just a willing heart to serve the Lord.

Type of Work
A trip to support His Hands is hard work, but extremely fulfilling.  Days involve working with your hands, walking distances, carrying heavy objects, and a lot of fun and laughter.

Team Size

4-8 member teams. We are currently not able to house/handle more than 8 people because of  housing/truck space and no less than 4 people because of the amount of work we need to get done.

Accommodations

Teams stay in the Hotel America which is located in the center of El Paraiso & only 1/2 mile from Joel’s house. The hotel is secure and team members share rooms. Each room has separate bathrooms with showers, air conditioning, and beautiful views of the mountains.

Trip Durations

Anywhere from 5-8 days.  Any trip shorter  would not be able to experience all aspects of the project and would feel rushed.

Example Itinerary

Saturday to Saturday Trip
Saturday – Arrive in San Pedro Sula and drive up to the mountains. Eat supper in the mountains, devotional and lights out.
Sunday – Wake up see the work site/Joel’s house. Short tour of El Paraiso, go to church from 7:00-9:00 at night. Church in the morning is usually just a small devotional and then a meeting.
Monday – Build filters
Tuesday  – Build filters and wash sand
Wednesday – Install filters in remote villages & wash sand if needed for the next day
Thursday – Installing filters in remote villages. Small home group meeting with people from village church
Friday – Return to San Pedro by 10:30 AM. Go to local market in the afternoon
Saturday – Depart from Honduras and return home

If the trip is one or two days less, then a filter building day, installing day, or both would be cut. Of course, if a trip is Sunday – Saturday or Monday – Saturday there would be no church service. Trips can begin or end any day of the week if it fit the team’s schedule better.

Staying Flexible

Things in Honduras are determined by the weather (rain or not), water (if we have it or not), and electricity. Things could change and probably will so bring a positive, go-with-the-flow attitude!

About how much does it cost to go on a short term mission trip?

Group of 4
·      Total $3440.  This is $860 per person for a week (Saturday-Saturday)

Group of 5
·      Total $3760.  This is $753 per person for a week (Saturday-Saturday)

Group of 6
·      Total $4140.  This is $690 per person for a week (Saturday-Saturday)

Group of 7
·      Total $4550.  This is $650 per person for a week (Saturday-Saturday)

Group of 8
·      Total $4960.  This is $620 per person for a week (Saturday-Saturday)

What this would pay for: the materials cost for the filters, rental car, gas, food, and lodging.

What this does not pay for: plane ticket, souvenirs, snacks that you might want to buy during

the day, insurance, and the dinner in San Pedro Sula the last night before the group leaves the

next day.

All of these numbers are based on the group renting one vehicle and staying in the hotel in San

Pedro Sula one night.  If these were to change, the prices would also change.
